Horses don’t break winning droughts in any more impressive fashion than the way Bingo Rose did at Doomben.

The mare had not won since January 2013 but posted her first victory for the Kelly Schweida stable with an outstanding performance in the Michael Hellyer Retirement Handicap (1615m).

Bingo Rose had finished in the first four at all of her starts for Schweida before improving at her first outing over a mile for the Eagle Farm trainer.

Bridget Grylls let Bingo Rose settle midfield before the seven-year-old swept around her opposition to join the front-runners at the 200 metres then stride clear late to score by almost six lengths.

Bingo Rose’s sixth win from 36 starts started a running double for Kelly Schweida Racing that Epic completed with his victory in the Courier Mail Queensland Taste Handicap (1615m).

Epic produced an uncharacteristic effort when finishing among the tailenders at Eagle Farm on August 9 before returning to his best form at Doomben three weeks later.

Luke Tarrant took the ride on Epic and the jockey’s early decisions ensured the seven-year-old had the perfect run throughout the $50,000 contest.

Epic’s smart beginning gave Tarrant the choice of leading on him or taking the trail behind the front-runners before choosing the latter inside the first 200 metres.

Tarrant guided Epic through a gap between the two leaders at the 250 metres before the son of Stratum dashed clear with a furlong to travel.

The runner-up Billy Aucash got within a head of Epic but was unable to prevent the chestnut notching his eighth win from 28 starts.

Congratulations to the owners of both winners and all involved with the stable’s dual success.
