Sirardi fights for Sunshine Coast success

Feb 16, 2014

Sirardi had to fight hard late but managed to break his maiden with a gritty win at the Sunshine Coast.

Sirardi had been placed at Eagle Farm over 1500 metres in his previous preparation but managed to score a second-up in over 1200 metres in the  Caloundra RSL Maiden.

Brad Stewart retained the ride on the three-year-old after riding him to his first-up second at the Gold Coast 15 days before his Sunshine Coast success.

The son  of Minardi gave Stewart some work to do in the early stages of the $10,000 contest as the jockey had to push him to hold his ground on the inside.

Sirardi recovered to settle midfield in the middle stages of the race before beginning to improve steadily under little pressure approaching the home turn.

McMahon eased Sirardi to the outside of the front-runners at the 200 metres and looked set to score an easy win but the runner-up fought back strongly.

Kazbers Rogue made Sirardi work for his win but the handy prospect got home by a short half head to score his first win at his eighth start.

The win earned connections another $6500 cheque, taking Sirardi’s stakes tally to more than $17,000.

Congratulations to Sirardi’s owners - A J Meads, R L Zammit, M P Baker and P Brady – on their win.
