Gowan Brae bolts in at Ipswich

Jan 28, 2015

Red Element colt Gowan Brae made an emphatic return to his best form for trainer Kelly Schweida with a dominant maiden win at Ipswich.

Gowan Brae showed promise in his previous preparations with a pair of seconds but had missed a place in each of his previous three runs of his summer campaign.

The three-year-old had taken time to reach peak fitness but Gowan Brae was ready to perform when he stepped out in the George Kitching Memorial Maiden (1666m).

Glen Colless partnered Gowan Brae in the $20,000 event and the horse was always travelling well midfield, one off the fence, for the leading Brisbane rider.

Colless steered Gowan Brae through gaps in the field rounding the home turn to have his mount poised to challenge before the pair assumed control of the race at the 200m.

A neat turn of foot sent Gowan Brae well clear of his opposition before the handy galloper maintained his effort to the line to score by a comfortable 1-¾ lengths.

Gowan Brae’s first win came at his ninth start while the promising performer earned a $12,800 winner’s cheque for connections.

Congratulations to Gowan Brae’s owners and all involved with his terrific Brisbane win.
