Epic was back in the good books with punters and trainer Kelly Schweida following his return to form at Doomben on Saturday.
Epic was a shock failure at his previous start after beating only one runner home over 1600 metres at Eagle Farm three weeks ago.
The costly defeat followed his brilliant Doomben win on July 26 which was his second win from his first four starts this campaign.
The Eagle Farm defeat mystified Schweida who called in a veterinarian and chiropractor in a desperate bid to find the cause of the seven-year-old's out of character performance.
"He'd had 24 runs for me and it was totally out of character and I still have no answers why he went so bad last time," Schweida said.
"He was beaten a long way from home and it wasn't like him.
"I had the vet look at him and chiropractor but they couldn't find anything wrong and his blood count before and after the race was fine.
"I'm not sure what to do with him now and I'll talk with his owners first."
Epic, who was ridden by Luke Tarrant, recorded his eighth win in 28 starts when he edged out Billy Aucash by a short neck in the Courier Mail Queensland Taste Handicap (1615m).
Tail And All filled third placing a further 1-1/4 lengths away.
The disappointment came from Sydney-bound Kingdoms who ran on fairly for fifth, just over three lengths away.
Kingdoms will still head south for the Group 3 Kingstown Town (2000m) at Rosehill on September 13 ahead of his main Sydney mission in the Group 1 The Metropolitan Handicap at Randwick.
Epic's win provided Schweida with a winning double after Bingo Rose claimed the Martin Hellyer Retirement Handicap (1615m).
Bingo Rose was having only her fifth start for Schweida and never looked in danger of defeat strolling home by almost six lengths.
The seven-year-old mare has had a history of muscle problems but Schweida appears to have found the key to the daughter of Magic Albert.
"She's had quite a few trainers and has had muscles problems all her life," Schweida said.
"She relished jumping to the mile and the three kilo claim helped a lot."
