Lennie’s Choice showed he was a fast learner with his dominant win in the Sky Racing Maiden Handicap (1000m) at Eagle Farm.
The gelding finished second to Rare Ruby on debut at Eagle Farm on January 12 before improving rapidly to bolt in at the same venue 18 days later.
Recent heavy rain left the Eagle Farm track as a heavy (8) for Lennie’s Choice’s second start but the three-year-old had no trouble with the soft track in his outing.
Apprentice Tegan Harrison rode Lennie’s Choice. The promising performer did the right thing by her as he flew from the barriers to sit on the speed with little effort.
Lennie’s Choice had pressure on his outside through the middle stages of the race but both horse and rider remained calm, keeping their rhythm to save something for a final effort.
The chestnut railed beautifully despite his lack of experience before shooting three lengths clear of his struggling opposition with 200 metres to run.
Harrison was kind to Lennie’s Choice over the concluding stages, easing him down late, but the winner still had 3-1/4 lengths to spare on his rivals at the finish.
The victory took Lennie’s Choice’s earnings to $13,450, well within range of repaying his $20,000 purchase price at the 2011 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale.
