A sharp late sprint proved enough for Ferocity Fair to break his maiden with a soft win at Doomben.
Ferocity Fair had shown ability without winning in his first three starts but trainer Kelly Schweida’s decision to run him over 1350 metres was the catalyst for the gelding’s first win.
Ric McMahon had partnered Ferocity Fair in his previous trials and races and decided to continue his partnership with the three-year-old in the Novotel Brisbane Airport Maiden.
Drawing barrier one afforded McMahon the chance to secure a cosy passage for Ferocity Fair, midfield on the rails, which allowed the promising galloper to find a rhythm midrace.
Ferocity Fair had plenty to offer when McMahon eased him off the fence to improve passing the 250 metres before the handy performer accelerated quickly to hit the front with 100 metres to travel.
McMahon could afford to be kind to Ferocity Fair late as he asserted his dominance over his opposition, drawing away to score by 2-1/4 lengths.
The victory earned a winner’s cheque of $11,050, taking his earnings to more than $19,000.
Adding special significance to Ferocity Fair’s win was the fact he is a homebred for his owner – Mr BJ Bremner.
