Miss Cover Girl was sent forward to control a modest tempo by jockey Glen Boss and she was able to kick off the rise and hold out race favourite Peeping who had tracked her the whole way.
It was a seventh win in eleven starts for Miss Cover Girl, and a maiden stakes success.
“It’s great to get that black type with her, thats what we were chasing,” said trainer Kelly Schweida.
“We were concerned with the wet track and even more concerned when she led, but we'll take it.
“She'll go to the Brisbane Winter Carnival, I think she is a better backmarker and better on a dry track.
“Knowing she can perform on a wet track though does add another string to her bow.”
